John Lasseter & Joe Ranft - 2006

My son, Jake, loves this movie. This is perhaps the tenth time I have seen this movie in the last couple of months - he has probably seen it two or three times that amount. It is probably my least favorite of the Pixar movies I've seen, but Jake is entranced by it. It is a story about the excesses of fame, which always interests me.

Robert Altman, 1992

As I start this blog, I am watching The Player by Robert Altman. This is the second Altman movie I've seen this week - Prairie Home Companion being the other. I've always loved this movie, I still remember seeing it in a theater in New Hampshire when I was a kid. One of my favorites.

The touchstones of my life are in the movies.

When I was in college, I kept track - on legal length yellow pads - the title, director and date of every movie I saw. Looking back on it at the end of each year was a window into my recent history. Those pages are long gone, but I want to start again.

Over the course of 2009 I will attempt to post at least the title of every movie I see. For some movies I'll write further, for most I won't.
